Wat Yannawa, Bangkok

WAT YANNAWA
Wat Yannawa is located on the eastern bank of Chao Phraya River. It was originally called Wat Khok Kwai, built in the middle Ayutthaya era during the reign of Somdet Phra Naresuan. During the reign of King Rama I, a new capel was constructed and during the time of King Rama II, the Royal Barge Procession was held at the temple annually. King Rama III ordered a construction of a unique pagoda (chedi) in the shape of Chinese junk ship, with the idea that Chinese junk ship were  quickly disappearing and the pagoda was only a historical symbol to show what the ships looked like. He also rename the temple as Wat Yannawaram. Later on, the name was finally changed into Wat Yannawa. The temple hosts 4 registered historical buildings: the ordination hall, the Chinese junk-ship pagoda. the Chinese-styled sermon hall and the throne hall of King Rama III.
