KUDEEJEEN Community, Bangkok

Kadeejeen or Kudeejeen is a community situated along Klong Wat Kanlayamit, extending from the mouth of Klong Bang Luang up to Wat Prayurawongsawas. The community was formed since the establishment of the new capital by King Taksin in 1767.
During the formation of Thonburi, King Taksin placed Chinese citizens from Ayutthaya in the northern area of Kudeejeen near the mouth of Bangkok Yai canal. Christians and Portuguese settled in the west bank of Chao Phraya River at Wat Santa Cruz.
Kudeejeen; then, became the community with people coming from various backgrounds, ethics and religious belief. Whether they are Christians, Buddhists or Muslim. People in the community can live together in harmony on the basis of the teaching that focus on doing good deeds and living with understanding.
With the mix of 3 different religions and 4 different beliefs, the combination of Hinayana, Mahayana, Christianity and Islam result in a community with temples, churches, mosque and shrines accommodating everyone. Christians in Kudeejeen also inherited various traits from the Portuguese who settled here. Famous snacks of Kudeejeen also came from the knowledge passed down by the early Portuguese settlers over 200 years ago.
